The Maharashtra government has approved ₹60 crore for rural drinking water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, targeting acute water shortages in drought-prone regions ahead of the upcoming summer season.
Funds will be allocated to all Zilla Parishads, with priority given to villages facing severe scarcity. According to a government resolution, the funding will support the installation of new pipelines, construction of storage tanks, and repairs to existing water supply infrastructure.
Disbursement will be phased, based on project progress, and District Collectors have been directed to ensure technical approvals are secured before tenders are issued. Field engineers will conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Officials noted that this approval is part of a broader initiative to upgrade rural water infrastructure statewide, responding to repeated demands from local bodies and aiming to reduce reliance on water tankers during peak summer months.
