Essar Oil & Gas Expands CBM Portfolio with 5 New Blocks

Essar Oil & Gas has significantly expanded its clean energy resource base after securing five new Coal Bed Methane (CBM) blocks through the Government of India’s Special CBM (SCBM) bid rounds in 2025 and 2026.

Covering an aggregate area of approximately 1,281 sq. km, the blocks represent an estimated 6.6 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas-in-place resources. In West Bengal, the addition of two blocks (~330 sq. km) increases the company’s total footprint in the Raniganj region to nearly 830 sq. km. This expansion unlocks significant operational efficiencies and integrated development opportunities alongside existing infrastructure.

Additionally, the acquisition of the Singrauli block in Madhya Pradesh bolsters Essar’s foothold in a key CBM basin, while new assets in Telangana’s Godavari Valley mark a strategic entry into a fresh geography to drive long-term growth.
