Exide Charges Ahead with ₹1,400-Crore EV Battery Push

Exide Industries is accelerating its transition into the clean energy landscape with a planned ₹1,400 crore capital expenditure for the current financial year. The investment will fund the first phase of its massive greenfield lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.

Total investment in the multi-gigawatt-hour (GWh) facility has already reached approximately ₹4,800 crore. According to Avik Roy, Managing Director and CEO, the plant will start generating revenue in Q3 FY27 by supplying indigenous cells to electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and energy storage systems. The initial rollout will displace imported Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells for Exide's three-wheeler battery pack facility in Gujarat. As the fiscal year closes, the company intends to expand its portfolio to include two-wheeler applications and advanced Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) cells for OEMs, subject to standard regulatory approvals.
