Expanding Healthcare Horizons: Ujala Cygnus Acquires Amandeep

Ujala Cygnus, backed by US-based private equity firm General Atlantic, has acquired a 60% stake in Punjab-based Amandeep Hospitals. Amandeep operates five super-speciality hospitals with over 800 operational beds across Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir.

With this acquisition, Ujala Cygnus expands its footprint in Northern India, growing its network from 21 to 26 hospitals and increasing total operational beds to over 3,000. The integration brings the Group into new cities, including Amritsar, Pathankot, Firozpur, and Srinagar—marking its entry into Punjab’s healthcare market.

This move also establishes Ujala Cygnus as the largest private hospital network in Jammu & Kashmir. Supported by General Atlantic’s majority investment last year, the acquisition aligns with the Group’s strategy to scale in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, focusing on high-end tertiary and quaternary care.

Future expansion plans target Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, and the Chandigarh tricity area. The combined entity will primarily operate on an asset-light model, with exceptions for select Amandeep-owned facilities. While greenfield projects are not currently planned, the company remains open to opportunities in Jammu, favoring brownfield expansions with hospitals in the 150–200 bed range.
