GAIL Scales Up Pipelines, Petrochemicals, and Clean Energy

GAIL (India) is advancing its strategic roadmap by expanding its natural gas transmission infrastructure, scaling up petrochemical and LPG capacities, and scaling investments in clean-energy solutions.

During the 42nd Annual General Meeting, Deepak Gupta highlighted the strategic imperative of balancing national energy security with the global shift toward cleaner energy sources. GAIL’s active natural gas pipeline network now exceeds 18,690 km, with an additional 1,500 km currently under development. To bolster its midstream footprint, the company is doubling the capacity of the 1,427-km Jamnagar-Loni LPG pipeline and has secured authorization for three new LPG pipelines spanning approximately 1,775 km.

In the petrochemical sector, execution is underway on the 500,000-tonne-per-year Proppropane Dehydrogenation and Polypropylene (PDH-PP) plant located in Usar. Additionally, GAIL has obtained in-principle clearance for two gas-based fertilizer manufacturing facilities in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, representing a combined capital outlay of roughly Rs 21,000 crore.

Alongside these core expansions, the company continues to diversify its liquefied natural gas (LNG) procurement and shipping portfolio while pioneering investments in sustainable, clean-tech alternatives.
