Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) is set to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Adani Group’s Dhamra terminal in Odisha through its Nagpur–Jharsuguda pipeline. The Mumbai–Nagpur section, which runs alongside the Samruddhi Expressway, will soon be operational, with Butibori expected to receive the first supplies within a month. The pipeline extension to Jharsuguda is likely to be completed in 2–3 months.
This infrastructure will enable GAIL to source gas from both India’s east and west coasts—utilizing the Dahej and Dabhol terminals in the west and Adani’s Dhamra terminal in the east. The pipeline’s two-way pumping capability will help maintain consistent pressure, ensuring a reliable gas supply for industrial and commercial users.
The Dhamra LNG Terminal, operated by a joint venture of Adani and Total, has a capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), expandable to 6.5 MTPA, and currently operates at 2.3 MTPA. Adani has invested ₹10,000 crore in the terminal and plans further port expansions. Dhamra Port is projected to handle 50 million tonnes of cargo this year, including LNG, coal, and iron ore fines.
