Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has approved the development of a world-class sports stadium in Bommasandra, to be constructed by the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) at an estimated cost of ₹1,650 crore. Once completed, the facility will become India’s second-largest cricket stadium, after the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with a seating capacity of 80,000.
Entirely funded by KHB, the multi-sport complex will feature facilities for both cricket and other disciplines, including eight indoor and eight outdoor sports arenas, state-of-the-art gyms, training centres, swimming pools, athlete hostels, guest houses, and both three-star and five-star hotels. A convention hall designed to host international events is also part of the plan.
The Housing Department has already acquired 53 acres in Surya City, with ongoing negotiations to secure an additional 22 acres from private landowners. Compensation will be provided through a combination of monetary benefits and developed plots.
The project is expected to be completed within three years of commencement and is envisioned as a major boost to Karnataka’s sports infrastructure and global event-hosting capacity.
