Ganga’s New Rail Link: ₹1,491 Cr Mokama Bridge Ready for Liftoff

In a major boost to Bihar’s rail infrastructure, Indian Railways has completed a state-of-the-art 1.9-km-long rail bridge over the Ganga River near Mokama. Constructed parallel to the historic Rajendra Pul at a cost of ₹1,491.47 crore, the new bridge addresses over six decades of bottlenecking on a key East Central Railway (ECR) corridor. Featuring modern engineering designed for enhanced safety and durability, the project—originally laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016—will dramatically expand passenger and freight capacity between north and south Bihar once final track integration and non-interlocking works are complete.
