Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced the identification of land in Krishnagiri district for the development of a dedicated airport in Hosur, a rapidly growing industrial hub near Bengaluru.
The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) is in the process of finalising and acquiring approximately 2,200–2,300 acres between Bagalur and Berigai, northeast of Hosur. A Land Development Plan (LDP) is currently being prepared, after which administrative approval and a Government Order will initiate the acquisition process.
The location was selected based on an Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey, which found Berigai-Bagalur more suitable than Belagondapalli, where Taneja Aerospace and Aviation (TAAL) operates a private airstrip. Its strategic proximity to the Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road and the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka border further strengthened its viability.
However, the project still requires key approvals, including site clearance, Defence Ministry permission for airspace use, and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL), which holds restrictive operational rights in the region until 2033.
