GCPTCL Gears Up for Growth: ₹1200 Crore Expansion Boosts Chemical Handling

The Gujarat Chemical Port Terminal Company Limited (GCPTCL) expansion project represents a strategic enhancement of its chemical handling facilities at Dahej, Bharuch, Gujarat. This ambitious initiative seeks to substantially increase the terminal's capacity for managing a diverse range of chemical products, including liquid, gaseous, and cryogenic substances. With an estimated project cost of ₹1200 Crore, the expansion is poised to elevate GCPTCL's operational capabilities and service offerings, reinforcing its pivotal role in India's chemical industry infrastructure.

Central to the project's objectives is the goal to augment the port's cargo handling capacity by an additional 7.021 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA). This increase is anticipated to significantly boost efficiency in cargo operations, enabling the port to better serve the expanding needs of India's chemical sector. The expansion is not just a response to current demand but a forward-looking investment aimed at facilitating future growth and development within the industry.

The strategic benefits of this expansion extend beyond enhanced capacity and operational efficiency. By increasing its throughput capabilities, GCPTCL is set to stimulate economic growth in the region, creating numerous job opportunities and attracting further investments. The port's strategic location, nestled close to key industrial zones like the Petroleum, Chemicals & Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR), Dahej SEZ, and the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), further amplifies its significance as a central hub in India's chemical logistics network.

Planned enhancements include the construction of an additional berth to accommodate larger vessels, expansion or addition of storage tanks to handle the increased MMTPA, and upgrades to the pipeline network for more efficient product transfer. Moreover, GCPTCL is committed to incorporating advanced automation and digitalization technologies to enhance safety and operational control, alongside implementing stringent environmental measures to ensure sustainable and responsible growth.
