Ghaziabad’s Next Move: A New Metro Lifeline via Hindon Airport

Ghaziabad is likely to see improved metro connectivity with a proposed 16-km corridor connecting Vaishali on the Delhi Metro Blue Line to Gokulpuri in northeast Delhi, passing through Hindon Civil Terminal, which serves as a secondary airport for the Delhi-NCR region.

The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has approached the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the corridor. The proposed line is expected to feature around seven stations, covering key areas such as Sahibabad, Mohan Nagar, Pasunda, and Gagan Vihar.

This corridor is aimed at enhancing last-mile connectivity for residents of Indirapuram, Vasundhara, and Vaishali, who currently rely heavily on road transport despite being close to existing metro and rapid rail networks. The DPR is anticipated within the next few months and will form part of the broader Phase V expansion plan for the Delhi-NCR metro network.

In addition to this proposal, earlier plans have considered extending metro connectivity from Shaheed Sthal to Ghaziabad railway station and from Noida Electronic City to Sahibabad. Overall, the new corridor is expected to improve regional mobility and help reduce congestion in this fast-developing urban area.
