Ghogha Goes Green: Delhi's New CNG Plant is Open

Delhi’s Ghogha Dairy is now home to a newly inaugurated Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant, launched by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on 27 September 2025. The facility is capable of processing 100 tonnes of wet waste daily to produce 4 tonnes of CNG per day.

Developed jointly by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) at a cost of ₹30 crore, the fully automated plant features an integrated CNG storage and dispensing unit for commercial sale. The project is a key step towards reducing landfill dependency by converting local wet waste into clean energy, aligning with Delhi’s broader waste-to-energy initiatives under the Sewa Pakhwada campaign for a garbage-free city.

Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood emphasized the plant’s role in utilizing household organic waste, while MCD facilitated the project by providing land.

Further expanding Delhi’s sustainable fuel infrastructure, IGL is also set to complete a CNG plant in Okhla by December, with plans underway for another facility in Ghazipur.
