GIFTing the Future: Gujarat’s New AI City Expansion

The Gujarat government is planning to set up a dedicated cluster for information technology (IT), IT-enabled services (ITES), and artificial intelligence (AI) near GIFT City in Gandhinagar to strengthen the state’s digital economy.

The initiative aims to promote these sectors in a structured and dynamic manner. P Bharathi, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), said the state has adopted a multidimensional strategy to develop the AI and IT/ITES ecosystem on a large scale. As part of this approach, the government plans to create a major, GIFT City–like cluster for AI, IT/ITES, and other emerging technologies adjacent to GIFT City.

The proposed cluster will focus on attracting global technology leaders and will offer comprehensive support and customized incentives to encourage innovation and investment in Gujarat.

The state government intends to invite major global players such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Meta to serve as anchor units in the proposed Gujarat IT–AI City. Incentives related to land, infrastructure, taxation, and regulatory compliance will be tailored to meet the needs of these companies.
