GMDA: Chandu Budhera Plant Gets 100 MLD Expansion

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is advancing efforts to strengthen the city’s water supply infrastructure in response to recurring shortages during peak summer months.

Following the successful commissioning of the fourth unit at the Chandu Budhera Water Treatment Plant in April, construction of a fifth unit is now underway and is expected to be completed by March 2026. Currently 50% complete, the new unit will add 100 million litres per day (MLD) to the city’s supply, increasing the plant’s total capacity to 500 MLD.

This added capacity will primarily serve the rapidly developing residential sectors 58 to 80, helping to reduce reliance on borewells and improve overall supply reliability.

With Gurugram’s population approaching 4 million, summer water demand often exceeds 700 MLD, while the current supply stands at approximately 670 MLD—sourced from Chandu Budhera (400 MLD) and Basai (270 MLD) plants. The expansion is expected to significantly ease the city’s supply deficit and ensure more consistent delivery to households.
