After two earlier unsuccessful attempts, the Goa state government has received encouraging responses from bidders for the redevelopment of the Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana (SSSK) at Dharbandora and the development of a 5,000-seat international convention centre at Dona Paula.
The two projects together carry an estimated investment of around Rs 700 crore. Approximately eight companies have expressed interest, with four bidders participating in the sugar factory redevelopment and five submitting bids for the convention centre project. The Dona Paula convention centre, estimated to cost Rs 570 crore, is planned to include a multiplex, a convention hotel, and other meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) facilities.
Despite earlier setbacks, the state government remains optimistic about the success of the public–private partnership (PPP) model for these developments. The redevelopment of the sugar factory alone is estimated at Rs 130 crore, and the renewed bidder interest signals progress as the government moves ahead with implementation.
