Goa’s ₹4,730 Cr Railway Upgrade Inches Closer to Completion

Goa's crucial railway double-tracking project is moving closer to completion as the Union government unveils a revised wildlife mitigation plan to clear environmental hurdles. Spanning 312 km at a total cost of Rs 4,730 crore—with investments already reaching Rs 2,785 crore by March 2026—the project aims to transform regional logistics.

The final major obstacle lies in a 38-km stretch through the Duski–Castlerock–Kulem–Kalem sector. Once cleared, the upgraded line will ease highway congestion, lower logistics costs, and provide a strong boost to local tourism, mining, and industry. Although Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted that timelines hinge on statutory and forest clearances, this new mitigation framework marks a vital step forward for the project.
