Gold Fever in Kurnool: Kadiri’s 1,000-Hectare Mining Boom

Gold exploration in the Jonnagiri area of Kurnool district is gaining momentum, with the Kadiri region emerging as a potential hub for large-scale deposits.

A recent survey by a Central Public Sector Enterprise has identified substantial gold reserves, signaling the possibility of a significant economic boost for the region. The agency, which established a temporary base near Kadiri last week, is employing advanced underground technologies to map the depth and extent of these mineral resources.

Preliminary findings indicate gold-bearing layers at intervals as shallow as 50 meters below the surface, with early assessments confirming commercial viability. Experts suggest the area could evolve into a major mining project. In response, the Andhra Pradesh government is preparing an open auction for mining rights, covering approximately 1,000 hectares. “This project could generate considerable employment and spur local economic activity,” said sources familiar with the plans.
