Gorakhpur Goes Green: SBESL's CBG Plant is Now Online

Solapur Bioenergy Systems Ltd. (SBESL), a subsidiary of Organic Recycling Systems (ORSL), has commenced the generation and dispatch of compressed biogas (CBG) from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) CBG plant in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

This milestone marks a significant boost to India’s green energy transition, aligning with the government’s SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative. The facility showcases large-scale conversion of agricultural residues, such as paddy straw and cow dung, into high-purity CBG, helping address pressing issues like stubble burning, waste disposal, and greenhouse gas emissions, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Beyond environmental benefits, the project also promotes rural development, generating employment in biomass collection and logistics. ORSL’s deep expertise in anaerobic digestion and waste valorisation, coupled with advanced automated technologies, has been instrumental in maximizing gas yield and efficiency.

With established grassroots partnerships ensuring a steady year-round biomass supply, the Gorakhpur CBG plant stands as a scalable and replicable model for sustainable waste-to-energy solutions in India.
