Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed District Collectors to initiate advance planning for water conservation ahead of the upcoming monsoon, with a focus on maximizing rainwater harvesting and storage. The move aims to strengthen Gujarat’s position as a national leader in water conservation.
The directive was issued during a video conference jointly organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the state government to review progress under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari 2.0 campaign. CM Patel stressed the need for effective planning, a long-term vision, and encouraged healthy competition among districts to expand water conservation efforts, particularly in regions with limited initiatives.
To support these efforts, the state government has allocated ₹50 lakh to each MLA for water conservation projects. The Chief Minister also called for the timely utilisation of the ₹553 crore central grant for water conservation by March 2026.
Union Minister C. R. Patil praised Gujarat’s water conservation model, noting its significant contribution to the nationwide water conservation movement.
