Gwalior's ₹5,500 Cr Leap Into Telecom Manufacturing

Gwalior is set to develop into a major telecom manufacturing hub, with 24 companies proposing investments of around ₹5,500 crore in the upcoming Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ). Positioned as India’s first integrated telecom manufacturing zone, the project will support domestic production of telecom equipment, electronic components and allied technologies.

The first phase will span around 170 acres at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City, backed by approximately ₹493 crore in Central Government funding for infrastructure development. The Department of Telecommunications and Madhya Pradesh Government signed an MoU for the project in July 2026.

Investor roadshows in Delhi and Mumbai attracted commitments of around ₹3,500 crore and ₹2,000 crore, respectively, while a subsequent Bengaluru roundtable added another ₹700 crore. The project is expected to generate over 18,000 direct and indirect jobs and create opportunities across telecom equipment, electronics, semiconductor components, infrastructure, utilities and logistics.
