Healthcare Reaches New Heights in the Himalayas

On October 12, 2026, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda officially laid the foundation stone for the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Centre for High Altitude Medicine and Public Health Research in Keylong, Himachal Pradesh.

The specialized facility is designed to strengthen scientific research into the distinct healthcare realities of high-altitude living, addressing the needs of local Himalayan communities, visitors, and military personnel stationed in remote border areas. Emphasizing a collaborative approach, the initiative brings together the ICMR, the Armed Forces Medical Services, and AIIMS Bilaspur to deliver evidence-based public health interventions and advance the understanding of altitude-related health risks.
