The Orissa High Court has directed experts from IIT Bhubaneswar to appear at the next hearing on January 8 to review the progress of the ₹496 crore Cuttack Branch Storm Water Channel (BSWC) drainage project.
The project, which aims to mitigate urban flooding in Cuttack, involves the construction of five major BSWCs under the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC). A special bench monitoring the project stressed the importance of re-vetting the detailed project reports (DPRs) by IIT Bhubaneswar to ensure technical robustness and timely execution.
During the hearing on December 18, Debabrata Mohanty, Managing Director of the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO), assured the court that the agency would act diligently to justify the confidence placed in its technical expertise. He also informed the court that IIT experts would be requested to complete the necessary surveys by January 4, 2026, using 19 newly submitted soil test reports.
The court noted that WATCO has already submitted the DPRs for re-vetting by IIT Bhubaneswar.
