Hinjewadi's Traffic Troubles: A 300-Meter Solution Emerges

In an effort to decongest traffic and address long-standing civic challenges in Pune’s rapidly expanding Hinjewadi IT hub, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated work to reopen a critical 300-meter road stretch from Wipro Circle in Hinjewadi Phase 2 to Marunji Laxmi Chowk. The stretch had remained inaccessible for years due to unauthorized encroachments.

On 3 July 2025, under the supervision of PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase, the agency launched coordinated clearing operations in partnership with multiple departments. “The final 300 meters of the road near Marunji–Wipro Circle is now under construction and is expected to be completed within 15 to 20 days,” Mhase confirmed.

The PMRDA had earlier issued notices to properties obstructing natural drainage systems, many of which contributed to flooding and civic issues in the area. These removal operations are currently underway.

Once completed, the reopened road will provide a direct link to Laxmi Chowk, significantly easing daily traffic congestion—particularly for the thousands of IT professionals and commuters in the Hinjewadi region.
