Historic Breakthrough for the Kishau Dam Project

In a major stride toward regional water security and river rejuvenation, the Centre and six state governments have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project.

The agreement comes on the heels of high-level discussions convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah with Chief Ministers of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi. By finalizing a revised financial framework—where the Central government assumes 90% of the financial burden for the water component and the remaining 10% is distributed among the states—the stakeholders have successfully overcome years of financial disputes to prioritize the cleanup and revitalization of the Yamuna River basin through the Tons River initiative.
