Union Home Minister Amit Shah today laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the Janaki Mata Temple at Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi, Bihar, revered as the birthplace of Goddess Sita.
The ceremony was attended by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary. The project aims to upgrade the temple's infrastructure while preserving its spiritual and cultural significance.
Amit Shah also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the launch of the Sitamarhi–Delhi Amrit Bharat Express to enhance connectivity for pilgrims.
Known also as the Maa Janaki Janmabhoomi Temple, Punaura Dham includes key sites such as a sacred lake and Panth Pakar, linked to Sita’s life and marriage. The redevelopment is expected to boost religious tourism, improve visitor facilities, and instill regional pride.
