Tamil Nadu is moving ahead with plans to develop a new airport near Hosur, proposing the acquisition of nearly 3,000 acres of land across 12 villages in Krishnagiri district.
The proposed airport is intended to ease aviation congestion in the Bengaluru region and is projected to handle approximately three crore passengers annually once operational. Of the total land requirement, around 800 acres are owned by the state government, while the remaining 2,134 acres are privately held. The preferred site lies within the Hosur–Berigai–Bagalur–Shoolagiri quadrilateral, a location that offers close proximity to major industrial clusters and connectivity to the Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road. According to the Krishnagiri district administration’s Land Development Plan, a total of 2,979 acres will be required for the project.
The proposal is currently awaiting clearance from the Commissioner of Land Administration. Following approval, the land acquisition process will be initiated, with the government aiming to complete it by February, subject to the pace of regulatory clearances. An official noted that the timeline will depend on how quickly the necessary approvals are granted.
