The Hyderabad Metro is set for a major expansion with plans to extend its network to the upcoming Future City. During a recent review meeting, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to draft a new proposal for a 40-kilometre Metro line connecting Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to the proposed Young India Skills Development University in Future City.
Spanning approximately 30,000 acres, Future City is expected to become a key urban hub. To support its anticipated growth, the Metro line will be extended up to Mirkhanpet. The Chief Minister instructed officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR), including cost estimates, for submission to the Union government. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Future City Development Authority (FSDA) will jointly oversee the planning and execution of this extension.
During the meeting, the status of the Hyderabad Metro's second phase was also reviewed. Officials reported that proposals for Phase 2—covering 76.4 km—are still awaiting central government approval. Metro Rail authorities have held discussions in Delhi, urging swift clearance. The second phase includes the following key routes:
Nagole to Shamshabad Airport (36.8 km)
Raiadurgam to Kokapet Neopolis (11.6 km)
MGBS to Chandrayangutta (7.5 km)
Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km)
LB Nagar to Hayathnagar (7.1 km)
The total estimated cost of Phase 2 is ₹24,269 crore, proposed to be funded equally by both the state and Union governments under a 50:50 funding model.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy underscored the need for close coordination with the Centre to fast-track approvals and ensure all preparations are in place to begin construction as soon as the green light is received.
