Hyundai's ₹11,000 Crore Boost Powers Talegaon Plant

Hyundai Motor India has announced a 57% increase in investment for its Talegaon manufacturing facility in Maharashtra, raising its commitment from ₹7,000 crore to ₹11,000 crore.

The announcement was made during a meeting between Hyundai Motor India MD Unsoo Kim and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The additional funding will be directed towards the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies, including a next-generation paint shop, automation systems, infrastructure upgrades, and EV production readiness.

Acquired from General Motors, the Talegaon plant currently manufactures engines with an annual installed capacity of 1.5 lakh units. Under Hyundai’s expansion plan, the facility will initially produce 1.7 lakh vehicles annually, with a target to scale up to 2.5 lakh units per year.

When combined with Hyundai’s Chennai facility (capacity of 8.24 lakh units), the company’s total production capacity in India will reach 10.74 lakh units by 2028.

As part of its long-term roadmap, Hyundai aims to launch 26 new models by FY2030, including:

6 electric vehicles (EVs), 20 internal combustion engine (ICE) models, Hybrid variants

The Talegaon expansion is expected to generate approximately 7,600 direct and indirect employment opportunities, significantly contributing to the state’s manufacturing and mobility ecosystem.
