The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is set to undertake its largest-ever modernisation of air navigation services, with an investment of ₹15,000–17,000 crore.
The initiative aims to significantly enhance India’s airspace capacity by upgrading or constructing 65 air traffic control (ATC) towers by 2029. Planned improvements include greater automation, advanced equipment, and next-generation navigation systems at major airports. Around 60% of the investment will go toward civil works, while 40% will be dedicated to new technology.
AAI is prioritising ATC upgrades at four major greenfield airports—Bhogapuram, Navi Mumbai, Dholera, and Jewar—owing to their high projected traffic volumes. The modernisation drive is expected to reduce aircraft congestion, boost operational efficiency, and align India’s air traffic management systems with global standards.
