India's Green Power Surge: Record 20 GW Added in 5 Months!

India’s renewable energy sector has reached a significant milestone, adding a record 20.1 GW of new capacity between April and August 2025—a 123% jump over the same period last year.

Driven by 17.5 GW of solar and 2.6 GW of wind installations, the country is on course to surpass 35 GW of new capacity by FY26, which would mark the highest annual addition in its clean-energy history, according to MNRE data and industry analysts such as ICRA. Falling N-type solar module prices—down nearly 40% year-on-year—along with competitive tariffs, strong project pipelines, and rising corporate demand have accelerated this growth.

This rapid expansion strengthens India’s energy security, promotes decentralisation, and reduces dependence on fossil fuels, while also creating employment opportunities across manufacturing and clean-tech industries.
