India's Logistics Infrastructure Gets a Shot in the Arm with Nagpur MMLP

The Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Nagpur, located at Sindi near Wardha, has officially begun commercial operations, marking a key milestone in the advancement of India’s logistics infrastructure.

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) announced the commencement, highlighting its commitment to building a faster and more efficient logistics network across the country. Developed by the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), the park received its first rake—123 Maruti cars from Farukhnagar—on April 28, a move hailed as a major achievement by the ministry.

Built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the MMLP covers 150 acres and will be developed in three phases at an estimated total cost of ₹673 crore. Phase I alone involves an investment of ₹137 crore. The private developer has been granted a 45-year concession period for operations and maintenance.

To oversee its development, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) named Maharashtra MMLP has been established jointly by NHLML and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA). The SPV is responsible for providing core infrastructure, including land, road and rail links, and access to utilities such as water and power.

The park is designed to serve as a one-stop hub for integrated logistics services. It will feature warehousing, cold storage, intermodal transfer facilities, container handling, and bulk and break-bulk cargo terminals. Additionally, the MMLP will offer value-added services such as sorting, grading, aggregation, and de-aggregation. It will also include bonded warehouses, customs clearance zones, administrative offices for freight forwarders and transporters, as well as dedicated truck terminals.
