The Union Cabinet has approved a new ₹62,500-crore Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMS) and the ₹1.27 lakh crore ‘Semicon 2.0’ initiative. Running from FY 2026-27 to 2030-31, the MPMS replaces the concluded PLI-LSEM to shift India’s focus from volume-driven exports to high-value domestic design and advanced manufacturing. Together, these programs aim to generate ₹39 lakh crore in cumulative mobile production and fortify India’s semiconductor self-reliance.
