Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) has achieved a major milestone in strengthening India’s energy security with the start of its first domestic oil production from the Jyoti-1 well in Gujarat’s Block CB-ONN-2005/9.
Union Minister of Petroleum Hardeep Singh Puri announced the development on 14 November 2025, calling it an important step toward enhancing India’s energy self-reliance. The milestone reflects IOCL’s renewed commitment to expanding its upstream operations and supports the government’s broader goal of maximising domestic energy resources.
This achievement comes as part of India’s ongoing strategy to boost energy security through resource diversification. Recently, Minister Puri also revealed a landmark agreement to import LPG from the United States for the first time, further broadening the country’s fuel supply sources.
