IWAI's ₹150 Cr Plan to Boost AP Transport and Tourism

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has announced an investment of over ₹150 crore to strengthen inland waterway infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP) and IWAI during the India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 in Mumbai. Under this initiative, IWAI will implement a Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) and upgrade navigational aids, while the GoAP will allocate land for developing onshore facilities to promote river cruise tourism.

The collaboration aims to reduce freight transportation costs, enhance logistics efficiency, and boost tourism across the state’s waterways. Transport Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy emphasized that the project will play a crucial role in improving connectivity and infrastructure in the region.
