Jindal Stainless (JSL) is set to invest ₹40,000 crore in Maharashtra to establish a state-of-the-art stainless steel manufacturing facility, strengthening India’s self-reliance in stainless steel production. The Maharashtra government’s cabinet subcommittee, led by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, has approved the proposal.
The facility, to be developed over the next decade, will have a total melting capacity of 4 MTPA and create 15,000 jobs. Construction will take place in phases, with the first phase expected to be operational within four years.
JSL will manufacture a diverse range of stainless steel flat products, catering to established industries while also producing specialised grades for critical applications in emerging sectors such as hydrogen, nuclear energy, defense, mobility, infrastructure, and process industries.
The Maharashtra government will support the project by fast-tracking approvals, clearances, and financial incentives through relevant state departments. JSL Chairman Ratan Jindal highlighted that this investment aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, reducing import dependency and advancing innovation in technology, sustainability, and product quality.
