Kachipura to BKC: Gadkari's 19-Hectare Nagpur Dream

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced an ambitious urban redevelopment project to transform 19 hectares of encroached land at Kachipura, Nagpur, into a modern commercial hub modelled after Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

The land, owned by Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV), is currently occupied by informal settlements and small businesses. As part of the redevelopment, around 800 displaced families will be provided with alternative housing, while commercial occupants, including restaurants, will be allotted affordable commercial spaces within the new complex.

Planned under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Sale (DBFOS) model, the project will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, green zones, sports facilities, and leisure areas, creating a self-sustained urban ecosystem.

The Minister has instructed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to revise land use plans to accommodate the new township. The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) and NMC have already initiated surveys and design planning.

The project aims to balance urban development with social rehabilitation, enhancing Nagpur’s economic potential and strengthening its position as a key growth centre in central India.
