Kandla Port in Gujarat is set to become India’s first port to host a green hydrogen plant using indigenous electrolysers.
Scheduled to begin operations by mid-2025, the plant will produce approximately 18 kg of green hydrogen per hour, amounting to 80-90 tonnes annually. This initiative aligns with India’s clean energy goals, supporting fuel cell applications and future green ammonia production.
A one-MW electrolyser, developed by L&T, has been designated for the project, with plans to scale up to 10 MW. According to an official release, the plant is expected to be fully operational by July 2025. Site preparations at Kandla are complete, and electrolysers will soon be assembled to commence operations.
Overseen by the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), the project aims to integrate Green Ammonia production, reinforcing the port’s vision of self-sustaining, eco-friendly power solutions and contributing to India’s transition to renewable energy.
