The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka, plans to sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with medical colleges to strengthen healthcare services at primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs), and taluk hospitals across the state, according to Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
Speaking at a recent programme in Mangaluru, where medical equipment worth ₹68.80 lakh donated by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited was handed over to Government Lady Goshen Hospital, the minister said the initiative aims to enhance healthcare delivery at the primary and secondary levels.
Under the proposed framework, medical colleges will leverage their expertise, infrastructure, and human resources to provide additional clinical and diagnostic support. They will collaborate closely with government facilities to strengthen service capacity and improve patient care.
The minister clarified that the initiative does not involve any financial assistance or grants to participating medical colleges. Administrative control of PHCs, CHCs, and taluk hospitals will remain with government medical officers.
