Infrastructure in Kerala is set for a massive upgrade as the Central Government approved projects valued at ₹2,039 crore. The announcement followed a crucial meeting between Kerala PWD Minister P K Basheer and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.
The bulk of the funding—₹1,663 crore—will go toward four-laning the Kadavoor-Aanjilimoodu section of the Kollam-Theni National Highway. Other major approvals include highway works on NH-744, NH-966, and NH-66. Enhancing interstate travel, a new ₹49-crore bridge will be built over the Kabani River, connecting Wayanad with Bairakuppe in Karnataka. Furthermore, the Union Minister gave in-principle nods for ropeway projects in tourist hotspots like Munnar and Sabarimala, while ordering immediate DPR preparation for an elevated highway to the Kozhikode airport.
