Kolkata's 'Gateway to the East' Gets a ₹48,000 Cr Upgrade!

The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) has signed a series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth over ₹48,000 crore in investments during India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai.

The agreements cover a wide range of sectors, including maritime trade, port infrastructure, and green energy. As part of the initiatives, SMPK will collaborate with the Dredging Corporation of India to strengthen dredging operations, while Haldia Petrochemicals will invest in tank farms and petroleum infrastructure. Significant port expansion projects are also planned through partnerships with Adani Ports, JSW Infrastructure, and Century Ports for the development of new container terminals. Additionally, Ultratech Cement will establish a cement bulk terminal at Kolkata Dock.

SMPK has also entered into partnerships with the Science and Technology Park, Pune, and several start-ups to promote logistics innovation and digital transformation. In the real estate segment, developers Srijan Realty and Eden Realtors will collaborate on riverfront development projects.

Highlighting the port’s vision, SMPK Chairman Rathendra Raman stated that these initiatives represent a major step toward sustainable growth and global competitiveness in India’s maritime sector.
