Kumbh Ready: Nashik Airport Gets ₹556-Crore Expansion

Nashik's Ozar Airport is set for a ₹556-crore expansion to handle the anticipated surge of visitors for the 2026–2028 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

The project, scheduled for completion by March 2027, will feature a new integrated terminal along with other supporting infrastructure. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between the state government and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the agency responsible for airport maintenance. Once completed, the upgrade will increase the airport's handling capacity from 300 to 1,000 passengers per hour, ensuring smoother operations during the massive religious gathering.

The Simhastha Kumbh Mela, attracting millions of devotees, will take place from October 2026 to July 2028. Dr. Praveen Gedam, chairman of the Kumbh Mela Authority, stressed the importance of completing the expansion on schedule, stating that it is crucial for efficient crowd management during the event.
