Kuppam's Decades-Long Dream Flows into Reality

In a landmark development for Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district, Krishna River water has reached the drought-prone Kuppam constituency through the Kuppam Branch Canal (KBC), fulfilling a decades-old aspiration of local farmers.

The water flow, having passed through V. Kota, entered Shanthipuram Mandal on August 23, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the region’s irrigation history. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who had vowed to bring Krishna waters to Kuppam within three months of assuming office, is set to formally perform the “Jalaharathi” ceremony on August 30.

This achievement is part of the Phase II modernization of the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Project, undertaken at a cost of ₹3,850 crore. The project included canal lining works on the Main Canal, Punganur Branch Canal, and the 131-km-long KBC, which features three major lift systems.

The KBC is designed to irrigate 6,300 acres by stabilizing 110 minor irrigation tanks, while also providing drinking water to 4.02 lakh people across eight mandals in the Palamaner and Kuppam constituencies.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister, engineers worked tirelessly to ensure timely completion, improved water conveyance, and minimal seepage losses—ushering in a new era of water security for the region.
