Latehar's Coal Power! PVUNL Secures 5.35 Acres for Mining

Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (PVUNL) has begun coal mining operations in Jharkhand’s Latehar district after taking possession of 5.35 acres of land.

The move is aimed at ensuring a reliable coal supply for the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project (STPP), reducing dependence on external sources. PVUNL officials noted that the new captive coal source will support uninterrupted power generation, particularly as the plant’s first 800 MW unit is already supplying electricity to the state grid. The decision comes amid rising regional power demand, with the Latehar block expected to improve long-term fuel security.

The coal block is considered a strategic asset, helping lower logistics costs, prevent supply disruptions, and maintain a steady fuel flow. PVUNL has secured the required permissions and is now working to ramp up mining operations while adhering to safety and environmental norms. Stakeholders remain optimistic about the plant’s future output and reliability.
