L&T Secures Key ₹4,468 Crore Contract for India's First Bullet Train

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has awarded a ₹4,468 crore contract to Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for the construction of 157 kilometers of track in Maharashtra as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project.

Awarded under the T-1 package, the contract covers the design, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning of the double-line high-speed rail track from Mumbai station to Zaroli village, located at the Maharashtra-Gujarat border. The scope also includes track-related works at four stations and a rolling stock depot in Thane.

The project will adopt a ballastless slab track system, modeled after Japan’s Shinkansen. This advanced system comprises four core components: RC track bed, Cement Asphalt Mortar (CAM), pre-cast track slabs, and rails with fasteners, ensuring high stability and durability at high speeds.

NHSRCL noted that track construction is already progressing rapidly in Gujarat, with over 200 km of viaduct works underway under packages T-2 and T-3.
