Larsen & Toubro's construction division has recently been awarded a contract by the Assam government to construct a 12.21-kilometer bridge spanning the Brahmaputra River. The project, commissioned by the Public Works Roads Department (PwRD) of Assam, involves the construction of a cable-stayed bridge linking the towns of Palashbari and Sualkuchi within the state.
The scope of the project includes a 3.6-kilometer cable-stayed bridge segment, along with a 5.61-kilometer approach on the Palashbari side and a three-kilometer approach on the Sualkuchi side, incorporating wetland approach viaducts. With a maximum span of 165 meters, the construction timeline is set at 48 months.
This initiative forms a crucial part of the government's agenda to enhance connectivity in the North-eastern region. Additionally, the bridge is poised to invigorate Sualkuchi, renowned for its heritage textile industry, by facilitating increased accessibility.
Furthermore, the bridge will provide a direct link to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) within the state, enhancing overall transportation infrastructure.
L&T is concurrently involved in executing the ‘Dhubri Phulbari Bridge Project’ for the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) and various other infrastructure projects across Assam.
