Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Set to Launch on May 24

The 63-km, six-lane access-controlled Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is nearing completion and is expected to be launched on 24 May 2026.

The high-speed corridor, likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will provide direct connectivity between Lucknow and Kanpur, linking Uttar Pradesh’s administrative capital with one of its key industrial centres.

A major advantage of the project is the significant reduction in travel time between the two cities. At present, commuters travelling on the congested 94-km NH-27 corridor often spend between 2.5 to 3 hours during peak traffic periods. With a maximum speed limit of 120 km/h, the new expressway is expected to reduce the journey time to around 30 to 45 minutes.

The expressway will also integrate with the Kanpur-Lucknow and Unnao-Lalganj highway networks, improving broader regional connectivity and supporting faster movement of passengers and goods across central Uttar Pradesh.
