The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has approved over ₹500 crore for urban development, smart city upgrades, and sustainability efforts. Funded by the 15th Finance Commission, the Smart City Mission, infrastructure allocations, and state urban renewal schemes, the projects aim to enhance city liveability, particularly in areas of air quality, waste management, and monsoon readiness.
The decision was made during a standing committee meeting at the Smart City office, chaired by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal.
To combat air pollution, ₹64.50 crore has been allocated, including ₹35.45 crore for road repairs and interlocking tiles, ₹7 crore for anti-smog guns and C&D waste centres, ₹1 crore for decorative fountains, ₹11.05 crore for park beautification and urban forest development, and ₹9 crore for geofencing encroachment-free land.
Solid waste management will receive ₹173 crore for 25 approved projects, covering waste disposal at the Shivri plant, transfer station construction, drinking water system upgrades, and new waste-handling equipment. Timely and quality execution has been emphasized.
Another ₹160 crore from infrastructure funds will support 17 key initiatives, including lake cleanups (Kathauta and Bharwara), road and drainage repairs, new drainage systems, traffic junction beautification, Kalyan Mandap construction, electrification, flood pumping stations, vending zones, and sports spaces under flyovers.
