After a five-year hiatus, Krishna river water has once again reached the drought-prone Madakasira constituency in the southwestern corner of Andhra Pradesh, near the Karnataka border.
Situated at a high elevation and plagued by severe groundwater scarcity—often requiring borewells over 1,000 feet deep—this region has long struggled with water access. The latest release, routed through the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Canal via the Gollapalli reservoir and Parigi tank, brought water to the Manur irrigation tank in Madakasira mandal, sparking celebrations among local communities.
The arrival of Krishna water is expected to rejuvenate 160 irrigation tanks, including key areas like Agali and Amarapuram, offering much-needed relief to farmers and residents. Water has also been released to Kuppam, near the Andhra Pradesh–Tamil Nadu border, further extending the benefits of this long-awaited supply.
