Maharashtra Greenlights ₹20,787 Cr 'Shaktipeeth Expressway'

On August 28, 2025, the Maharashtra government approved land acquisition for the proposed 802 km Shaktipeeth Expressway, which will link Tuljapur, Kolhapur, and Mahur, traversing 12 districts, 39 tehsils, and 370 villages across the state.

The project has been allocated ₹20,787 crore, comprising ₹12,000 crore as principal and ₹8,787 crore in interest, to facilitate land acquisition along the stretch from Pavanar to Sangli. Once completed, the expressway is expected to cut travel time between Nagpur and Goa from 18 hours to just 8 hours, significantly enhancing regional connectivity.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has been assigned to assess route alignment options in Kolhapur district, specifically in Shirol, Karveer, Hatkanangale, Kagal, Bhudargad, and Ajra talukas, according to a government resolution (GR) issued by State Additional Secretary Rajesh Bhogale.
