Maharashtra's Medical Infrastructure Gets a ₹4,000 Crore Push

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed to providing a loan of Rs 4,000 crore to enhance medical infrastructure in Maharashtra. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that the first tranche of Rs 1,200 crore has received in-principle approval. Additionally, he has directed officials to commence the construction of a 500-bed hospital in Dharashiv (formerly Osmanabad).

Under the ADB's guidance, a comprehensive plan encompassing administrative enhancements and advancements in medical education has been proposed. This plan includes the establishment of a center of excellence, digital medical education and health policy initiatives, implementation of e-hospital systems, development of sustainability policies, establishment of recruitment centers, decentralization of medicine procurement, and other strategic measures.

The tender process for constructing similar medical infrastructure in Alibaug, Raigad district, has been completed, while the procedures for Kolhapur and Sindhudurg are ongoing. Inaugurating a super specialty hospital in Ulhasnagar, Thane, the CM reiterated his government's commitment to establishing a medical college and super specialty hospital in every district of Maharashtra.
